Summer Enrichment Internship Program Highlights 2025
Valencia County Summer Internship Program 2025 – Final Recap The 2025 Valencia County Summer Internship Program successfully wrapped up another impactful 8-week session, welcoming high school students into county departments through the New Mexico Summer Enrichment Internship Program (SEIP). Interns gained valuable hands-on experience, professional skills, and exposure to public service careers—while providing meaningful support to our teams. This program plays a vital role in workforce development, community engagement, and equity in opportunity by offering paid internships that prepare students for future careers, regardless of their background. Departments benefit from the fresh energy, talent, and support interns bring, while students leave with skills and confidence they didn’t have before. Across Valencia County and New Mexico, programs like this are helping shape the next generation of leaders and public servants. We thank all the mentors, supervisors, and staff who made this summer a success—and most of all, our interns, who showed up ready to learn and grow. As we close out Summer 2025, we celebrate the curiosity, growth, and potential of every student who participated. This program isn’t just about summer work—it’s about transforming futures, strengthening our civic institutions, and setting a precedent: that in Valencia County and across New Mexico, we believe in investing in our youth. We look forward to building on this success in 2026 and beyond.
Summer Enrichment Internship Program Highlights 2024 Archive
My time participating in the Valencia County Summer Internship Program has been nothing short of a valuable learning experience. Like most kids my age, I applied for the internship with the sole purpose of getting the check, but my time has provided me with so much more than just money. Not only have I gotten the opportunity to participate in the JJAB (Juvenile Justice Advisory Board), but I have obtained skills that will follow me well into my adult years.
One of the most important being teamwork, an obvious lesson that has found its way to the backburner in my time. My mentor and the others in my department have built a family. They don’t argue when something goes wrong and, no matter how busy, they always make sure to help their peers. The sense of community in this workspace is unparalleled to any I’ve seen before. Through my training, none of my coordinators have put me down or made me feel less than because I was struggling to comprehend the task at hand. (And believe me, that happens a lot) My skills on the computer have increased drastically, thanks to the help I have received throughout my eight weeks. I’ve also learned how to operate our printer and shredder, which was exciting. I have attended training meetings that have increased my knowledge on job etiquette and how to be professional in the workplace. The opportunity to obtain this knowledge is one that I am deeply grateful for. Not only have my instructors shared with me skills I can use in the workplace, but they have also shared life lessons and stories. This internship was nothing I had expected it to be. It has exceeded my expectations time and time again. I truly cannot express the gratitude I have for this program. I look forward to applying again next summer. Hopefully it will teach me as many things, if not more than, this summer has. -Isabella Medina
